About
Paul Maven is a photographer originally from Sunderland, the former ship building centre on the north east coast of England. His genre straddling freelance career saw him providing commercial, corporate, editorial, social and wedding photography to clients across the UK. In tandem with this, he also continued to work on personal projects focusing mostly on the post industrial landscape. The themes he explored were inspired not only by the rapid dismantling of the heavy industry that surrounded him during his formative years, but also what he perceived as the often cosmetic and cursory nature of what replaced it, both economically and structurally. His current output continues to explore the overarching theme of de-industrialisation and its consequences, whilst broadening to encompass some of his passions; his life long love of cycling and the landscapes of Northern Britain. Paul has gathered here a tiny selection from his back catalogue of commercial images, alongside a broader selection of personal projects, past and current. The work spans almost thirty years of photographic practice.
